Water Conservation and Usage

every drop counts

As a response to Melbourne's worsening drought situation and to address water management, the University’s Water Conservation Committee (WCC) was established in June 2001 to address the need for careful management of our water resources.

The WCC has developed an Action Plan to:

  • Determine water use flow rates
  • Assess the value, use and availability of alternatives to mains water – e.g. ground and storm water; and
  • Investigate opportunities for water minimisation and recycling.

Since Monash Residential Services is part of the University’s Water Conservation Committee, our aim is to monitor water usage, oversee and coordinate the development of strategies to reduce water consumption and the development of water recycling programs.

As of 2010, no drinking water is used on any gardens in MRS accommodation.
