Monash University has been successful in securing funding to construct a new 50 bed Halls of Residence complex on the Gippsland campus. The new residential facilities have been designed to provide suitable accommodation for first year, senior and post-graduate students.

The new residential building will be situated within the area encompassing the existing West Residences buildings and will:

  • consist of single level construction with a gross floor area of approx 1,300 m2;
  • have a mix of room styles; 30 single bedrooms with full en-suite, 17 bedrooms with 5 shared bathroom facilities, 3 bedrooms and 3 en-suites designed for students with physical impairment;
  • be designed with disability access features and general accessibility features throughout both buildings;
  • have a total of 2 well planned and accessible communal spaces, size of 50 m2 each, that primarily constitute shared lounge and dining facilities. These areas will also serve as community engagement spaces within the residences accommodating social and study group activities;
  • incorporate the latest in information and communication infrastructure including fibre cable hard wired to each bedroom providing access to the university’s high speed intranet (1 gig/sec) , VOIP telephone handsets and TV streaming (80 channel);
  • communal laundry facilities;
  • incorporate, as much as is practical, environmentally sustainable design features;
  • Wireless access in common areas and in the internal courtyards
