Tenancy Advice

Understanding your tenancy rights and duties will help you manage your housing with more confidence.

There are simple ways of learning about your rights and duties. Reading the Consumer Affairs Renters Guide which is available in many languages is a good way to start.

The Off-Campus Housing Advisory Service, offered by Monash Residential Services, assists students and staff by providing off-campus housing information and advice. The service provides links to a comprehensive list of 'on-line off-campus accommodation databases, including rental and tenancy information, shared housing and full rental opportunities.

Representatives from Monash Residential Services are available at Victorian campuses during scheduled times, and provide specialised information on your renting rights. Use the contact and availability details to arrange an appointment at your campus.

Common areas of dispute are:

  • Disputes about bonds
  • Getting repairs done
  • Privacy
  • Rent increases
  • Breaking a lease
  • Notices to vacate
  • Other housing related problems

The Monash Residential Services Off-campus Staff will be available at each of the campuses for a personal appointment.

Note: Appointments can be arranged at any campus convenient to you. If you need advice outside of the scheduled appointment times at your campus email the Off Campus Service or use these contact and availability details.
