Telephone Facilities
North Flats
Bedroom Phones
VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) Phone have been provided in each bedroom at the Berwick flats. These phones are connected and ready for use on arrival. The phone services in your room is connected to the main campus switchboard, as such all bedrooms have an internal extension number. Residents are also able to receive internal and external calls directly to their rooms for free.
In order to make external calls (outside Monash University), student will need to use a phone calling card with a 1800 dialling number on it. The VoIP phones can be used to make free calls to any University extension number, and to a limited range of external numbers for community health and support service providers. Phone calling cards can be purchased from various retail outlets in the main street of Berwick Village.
Student living in North Flats also have access to an external phone line; however, they are not connected. To connect a telephone service, residents must contact a service provider such as Telstra or Optus and arrange for the connection or re-connection of the service. The determination on whether a student needs a connection or re-connection of the service will be made by the service provider, and is normally based on whether the phone line has been used within three (3) months of the customer calling to establish a connection and open an account in their name.
The new account has to be in the residents name and each resident is entirely responsible for the usage and payment of accounts to the provider. Residents who have the phone connected have a private contract between themselves and their service provider. MRS is not a party to this contract and has no responsibility for it.
