Telephone Facilities
The Monash Residential Services switch-board located at Clayton Residential operates 8.30am to 9.00pm weekdays and 9.00am to 9.00pm Saturday and Sunday. During the weekend, the switch board closes for 30 minutes at lunch (from 1.00pm to 1.30pm).
All private resident telephone extensions, when activated have an IN-DIAL facility. This enables residents to receive telephone calls 24 hours a day. Residents are able to receive calls directly.
The ability to make external calls via private telephone connections is determined by an automatic CREDIT CUT-OFF. In other words, residents wishing to make chargeable calls from their private telephone extension, are required to go to the Operations Office and pre-pay an amount of money for external calls. When the telephone credit has been exhausted, the resident will be unable to make further chargeable phone calls without additional credit being added.

There is no charge for internal calls made within the Halls of Residence, Normanby House, South East Flats. Calls to the Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton, Gippsland, Parkville and Peninsula campuses are also without charge, provided they are made via relevant campus extensions:

Residents are required to provide their own telephone handset, which will remain their property. The phone must come with a lead (one that can be plugged into the wall connection point) which has either a RJ 12 JACK or a RJ 45 JACK on the end of it.
Charges for Internet and Telephone access are a compulsory $285 plus GST per annum and residents will be invoiced $142.50 plus GST at the begining of each semester.
At the time of departure, telephone credit balances of less than $10 will be refunded in cash over the counter. Credit balances of more than $10 will be refunded by way of a credit note which will be created and forwarded to the resident at the begining of the following month. Outstanding debts will be invoiced, and if left unpaid, could invalidate the student′s Monash University account.
