Maintenance & OHS

Maintenance

Maintenance and OHS issues are important to everyone to be responsible for at Gippsland Residential. We endeavour to provide a comfortable and safe environment for all our residents. It is the residents' responsibility to advise the residential office of any faults, breakage or damages as soon as it occurs. Individual maintenance requests should be reported by:

General and minor maintenance is conducted by domestic operations staff. Any major works or requests that require specific trades and services personnel is conducted by the Facilities and Services department and independent contractors. General maintenance is conducted from 10 am - 4 pm, Monday - Friday.

Emergency after hours' maintenance should be reported immediately to your College Head or Monash Security Ext 26662 or 333 who will contact the Manager and/or appropriate Facilities and Services staff.

Trades and services contractors can be identifiable by a contractor's badge.

Occupational Health & Safety

Safety audits of all rooms in the residences are conducted twice a year to ensure that all potential safety issues and hazards are identified.

Routine checks comprise of electrical equipment, smoke and fire warning systems and fire extinguishing equipment. During this time, bedrooms will all be checked for any prohibited items.

Evacuation drills are conducted biannually. It is mandatory that residents comply with the instructions of emergency warders. 

First Aid

College Heads, domestic operations staff and RAs are trained. Please consult them if you have any first aid issues. First aid kits are supplied in each unit. Please use them for any injuries. Report all incidents, injuries or used items to Residential Office.

Forbidden Items

Residents are reminded that only Australian compliant power boards with 10amp cut off switches are permitted at Gippsland Residential.

The following items are prohibited from being used in units and resident bedrooms:

  • Double adaptors
  • Personal heaters of any kind e.g. Bar radiators, fan heaters, oil heaters etc.
  • Cooking equipment. Residents are absolutely forbidden to cook food in their private bedrooms.
  • Candles, incense or anything which generates a naked flame

 

The following items are prohibited within a MRS accommodation complex:

  • Missiles, fireworks and firearms
  • Pets or animals
