North Units

North Residences is our postgraduate study village. Located immediately adjacent to the main campus and opposite the N3 car park, these are very popular units. North Place has a capacity to accommodate 27 residents.

North Place buildings are double storey solid brick buildings. There are 2 types of room layouts, standard and ensuite.

North Place 3 & 4

North 3 has 9 en-suite bedrooms and North Place 4 has 8 en-suite bedrooms. Bedrooms are of similar lay out and size to those in the West Units (approx 10 sq metres).

North 3 and 4 residents share all common facilities but have their own private bathroom attached to their bedrooms which comprise of a shower, toilet and basin.

 

North Place 5

North Place 5 is a 10 bedroom unit. Residents share all common facilities such as kitchen, lounge, bathroom and laundries. Each floor has a separate toilet and shower as well as a washing machine and clothes dryer. Upstairs bedrooms are accessible only by stairways.

All bedrooms in North residences come provided with the following:

  • Single bed
  • Mattress and mattress protector
  • Pillow and pillow protector
  • Doona and doona cover
  • Built in study desk and chair
  • Heater
  • Shelving
  • Double wardrobe and
  • Clothes airer
North Bedroom

 

Students are required to supply the following:

  • Linen (bedding and towels)
  • Personal items
  • Laptop/computer
  • Ethernet cord for internet access
  • TV

There are internet and telephone ports built into every room. Each room is equipped with a telephone and students have a private number assigned which is viewed on their telephone screens. Internal and external calls can be received. Internal calls can be made to any Monash number free of charge. Calls to external numbers can be made with a calling card. All 1800* numbers are free of charge. There is a list of permissible numbers in all bedrooms and common areas. Students are required to supply their own Ethernet network cord to connect their computer to the internet port.

Common Area facilities

The lounge/common room is spacious. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen area; both of which are located on the ground floor. Each unit is equipped with the following:

  • House phone
  • Two showers
  • Two toilets
  • Two washing machines
  • Two clothes dryers
  • Two refrigerator/freezers
  • Heater
  • Oven and stove
  • Microwave oven
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • First aid kit
  • Some cooking equipment/utensils.

Students are required to supply their own personal cutlery and crockery. In most units, there may be items donated from previous residents.

Cleaning of all communal areas such as the kitchen, bathroom and lounge-room is provided on a weekly basis. Students are responsible for their bedrooms and general upkeep of common areas. Residents are expected to keep all common area clean and clear of clutter.
