South Units
There are 9 units (81 rooms) available in the South Residences. The lounge-room, bathroom and kitchen areas in South are larger than the West Houses as it accommodates more people. There are two toilets and two showers in each unit. Two of our South Units have accessible rooms with ensuite facilities.
South offers three bedroom layouts: South double rooms (two rooms with an internal walkthrough comprising of a bedroom and study), South large rooms (larger floor space) or South single rooms (standard room size, 9.4 square metres).
Bedroom Facilities
All bedrooms in South residences come provided with the following:
- Single bed and mattress
- Mattress protector
- Pillow and pillow protector
- Doona and doona cover
- Built in study desk and chair
- Heater
- Shelving
- Double wardrobe and
- Clothes airer
Students are required to supply the following:
- Linen
- Personal items
- Ethernet cord for internet access
There are internet and telephone ports built into every room. Each room is equipped with a telephone and students have a private number assigned which is viewed on their telephone screens. Internal and external calls can be received. Internal calls can be made to any Monash number free of charge. Calls to external numbers can be made with a calling card. All 1800* numbers are free of charge. There is a list of permissible numbers in all bedrooms and common areas. Students are required to supply their own Ethernet network cord to connect their computer to the internet port.
Common Facilities
Residents in west share all common facilities such as the kitchen, lounge-room, bathroom and laundry with their fellow housemates. Each unit is equipped with the following:
- House phone
- Two showers
- Two toilets
- Washing machine
- Clothes dryer
- Two refrigerator/freezers
- Heater
- Two oven and stoves
- Microwave oven
- Vacuum cleaner
- First aid kit
- Some cooking equipment/utensils.
Students are required to supply their own personal cutlery and crockery. In most units, there may be items donated from previous residents.
Cleaning of all communal areas such as the kitchen, bathroom and lounge-room is provided on a weekly basis. Students are responsible for their bedrooms and general upkeep of common areas. Residents are expected to keep all common area clean and clear of clutter.
