Safety, Security and Support

Security Personnel

While the thought of leaving home is generally an exciting prospect for most young adults, it's also true that many students, and parents, share real fears about leaving the safety and security of home. The Gippsland campus recognises the importance of providing a safe and secure environment and has adopted an extensive system of both passive and active measures to maximise personal safety and security.

Gippsland's accommodation is consistently maintained to ensure that all paths and walkways are clear, wide and well lit at night. Lighting is also placed in and around all residential precincts, car parks and buildings.

The campus employs 24hour security personnel to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.

A security service is available to escort students who are returning to their vehicles or houses late at night.

Push-button emergency phones have been located throughout all residences, university buildings and car parks which connect the caller to an officer of the Emergency Response Group. Alternatively, residents can dial "333" (free call), from any internal Monash telephone to contact Monash Security.

An experienced team made up of both Residences and Security staff provides assistance to students 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Support Staff

A number of staff reside on-campus and are available to assist residents no matter what the hour. Accommodation staff members have had many years of experience in dealing with students in residence and will happily assist them with any concerns. They are familiar with many of the problems faced by residents, particularly first-year students, in their new experience of independent living.

Important support groups are the caretakers and security guards.

Security Guards

The Security Guards are on duty Seven days per week to ensure the security and safety of students and will also escort students to and from the university buildings after dark if requested.

College Heads

There are Two College Heads and Two Deputy College Heads who live on campus here at Gippsland Residential. They are available at all times to attend any emergencies or student call outs as required. The College Heads and Deputy College Heads are dedicated staff members who work and live on campus, and who provide a comprehensive pastoral as well as emergency support service to our residential students.

These College Heads are also available for individual student enquiries during office times by appointment. The College Heads also conduct and participate in many social activities for the students living on campus and get to know all the residents here at Gippsland.
