Phones

Each resident is provided with a free VoIP phone in their bedroom. This is provided via the data port in each room. Every resident has a unique phone number and the ability to personalise their phone during their time in residence.

The VoIP phone allows all incoming calls, and many free outgoing calls. The free calls are to:

  • 1800 numbers (to allow access to phone cards with 1800 calling service)

Residents are responsible for the care of their phone, with a $500 charge applicable if the phone is damaged upon return.

In addition each residence has either one or two central phones to be shared with the other residents.  These phones are also dial in only with the added benefit of no charge internal calls within the University PABX system, access to emergeny 000 and 1800 numbers to allow phone card access. These phones will continue to work during an electrical or network outage.

External calls are possible by the purchase of a phone card. These pre paid cards are available at the MONSU bookshop, newsagents, supermarkets and petrol stations. Calls are made via the 1800 phone option on the card.

Residents can arrange with a phone provider to have a private phone line installed. The cost of this line is the full responsibility of the student. Further details regarding this phone line can be obtained at the Peninsula Residential Office.
