Residential Support Team

At Peninsula Residential there is a Residential Support Team (RST) in place. It consists of seven Resident Advisors, Residential Support Assistant and Residential Supervisor.  Residents acting as Resident Advisors are an integral part of the Monash Residential Services (MRS) community. Resident Advisors are volunteers who assist the Residential Supervisor to develop a safe, accepting and caring community environment and to enforce the rules set out by MRS in order to avoid inconsistencies.

The role is essentially a social and pastoral one whereby Resident Advisors help develop a sense of community. In connection with accommodation matters, MRS and the Residential Support Teams aim to:

  1. Supervise the welfare and conduct of residents, monitoring and regulating individual and group behaviour, and supporting residents by providing general advice and guidance in a broad range of issues.
  2. Develop an environment that promotes and supports the social and personal development of the residents and is conducive to study.
  3. Promote an environment whereby residents ‘look out for each other’.
  4. Develop an environment, which has regard for the individual and group needs of the residents, taking into consideration the multi-cultural nature of MRS.
  5. Develop an environment that creates opportunities for mutually beneficial interaction between residents and helps residents develop respect for each other´s rights and freedoms.
  6. As a team, know every resident within their respective residence and be aware of their wellbeing throughout the semester, with particular attention to those residents who are social isolates and as such may not have a ‘voice’ at their residence.

The team receives training in Level 2 First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Fire Safety, Emergency Asthma Management and Responsible Service of Alcohol.
