Safety and Security
While the thought of leaving home is generally an exciting prospect for most young adults, it's also true that many students, and parents, share real fears about leaving the safety and security of home. The Peninsula campus recognises the importance of providing a safe and secure environment and has adopted an extensive system of both passive and active measures to maximise personal safety and security.
Peninsula's accommodation is consistently maintained to ensure that all paths and walkways are clear, wide and well lit at night. Lighting is also placed in and around all residential precincts, car parks and buildings. Security cameras operate in selected locations.
The campus employs 24hour security personnel to ensure the safety of everyone on campus. Monash Security can be contacted on 44318 or 333 using any internal phone, or on 99044318 or 99044333 on external and cell phones.
A security service is available to escort students who are returning to their vehicles or houses late at night. Residents should contact Monash Security who will provide instructions.
An experienced team made up of both Residences and Security staff provide assistance to students 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Residents should report all suspicious activity to Monash Security and provide an MRS Incident Report Form to the Residential Office.
In addition to the steps taken by the University to protect the students living on-campus, there are some things the residents can do to help protect themselves and the buildings in which they live.
- Lock all doors when exiting the residence
- Lock your bedroom door when you are not in residence
- Close and lock your windows when you are not in residence
- If you have a car parked on campus, make sure it is locked and the windows closed when leaving it unattended.
- Report any suspicious persons you seen around residences to Monash Security on extension 44318
- Report any fault with the security lighting to Monash Security on extension 44318
- Report incidents to Victoria Police to ensure the wider community is aware of security incidents.
