Residential Support Team
At Clayton Residential, each residence has a Residential Support Team. It consists of four to eight
Resident Advisors, Senior Resident Advisor, Deputy College Head and College Head. Residents acting as
Resident Advisors are an integral part of the Monash Residential Services (MRS)
community. Resident Advisors are volunteers who assist the College Heads of their respective residences to develop a
safe, accepting and caring community environment and to enforce the rules set out by MRS in order to avoid
inconsistencies.
The role is essentially a social and pastoral one whereby Resident Advisors help develop a sense
of community. In connection with accommodation matters, MRS
and the Residential Support Teams aim to:
- Supervise the welfare and conduct of residents, monitoring and regulating individual and group
behaviour, and supporting residents by providing general advice and guidance in a broad range of issues.
- Develop an environment that promotes and supports the social and personal development of the residents
and is conducive to study.
- Promote an environment whereby residents ‘look out for each other’.
- Develop an environment, which has regard for the individual and group needs of the residents,
taking into consideration the multi-cultural nature of MRS.
- Develop an environment that creates opportunities for mutually beneficial interaction between residents
and helps residents develop respect for each other´s rights and freedoms.
- As a team, know every resident within their respective residence and be aware of their wellbeing
throughout the semester, with particular attention to those residents who are social isolates and as
such may not have a ‘voice’ at their residence.
